Over The Hump

Greetings dead Tree Fans!

About a week ago we released Dames of Asstoria Version 0.95 Finishing up almost all of the “big” game mechanics leaving us a rather short list of medium-esque sized mechanics or systems left. None of them that would greatly change how the game plays aside from numerical values affecting the game’s balance.

With VER 0.95 we have implemented:

-a “finished” Weapons and armor list (minus balance changes or other small changes/additions)

-an enchanting system

-Accoutrements (magical trinkets)

-a “finished Disciplines list (minus balance changes or other small changes/additions)

-Improvised weapons

-Using mounts

-Rewriting and adding rules clarifications

-Other small changes

So What’s left?

Excluding more playtesting, and more balance patches and other small changes we want to make due to feedback, we are looking at 4 major sections of the game:

Talismans: Talismans are a portion of our weapon system, we have had a fair amount of internal back and forth on how we want Talismans to work and how they should differ to magical staffs, So our big hurdle is simply finalizing that system and then stating a number of talismans for the system.

Crafting/Alchemy/Repair: Not much is left on the crafting system in terms of “heavy lifting”. The overarching system is in place and at this point we simply need to write out the crafter items lists and their recipes.

Destinies: This is our “end game+” content. Once you reach the max level of 10 it gives you something to continue with, for your character. Think of it like how in DnD and Pathfinder much of your level 20-30 character progression is usually looked upon as “acquiring godhood” or similar.

Chimeras/Bestiary: This is our last major bit of game mechanics stuff. Once all of our game mechanics have been written and finished, pending community playtest, we plan on using that system to craft our Core rule book bestiary. The current Chimera going into said bestiary are done, at this point it will simply be a matter of Stating them up.

Ok Then what?

We plan to have all of this done come December 2021, giving us until about March/April to have our editing team edit everything, including lore, while the rest of us play test the system in full (in addition to the other play tests we have been doing).

Once that is done we will then finish formatting the book (a demo version of the “book” for community review and feedback of the formatting is planned to drop in September). Followed by another final pass by the editing team hopefully landing us in June or early July. With the book done, and ready for print we are looking to send it off in July, get any proofing done and have the books arrive in early August for us to start mailing everything out. Having worked with this manufacturer before, along with the quantity of books and the fact that they are in the same state as one of our distribution centres, we aren’t expecting any egregious delays once things are sent off for printing. and while we agree that early July is a little on the late end for sending things to the printer, that’s more of our “last minute, had issues” timeline. If things go well we should be looking at early June for printing.

That’s everything for now! So grab your dice and praise Ze’Quarius! Do you have what it takes to overcome impossible odds and be knighted a Dame?

More lazy Blog-mins

Greetings Dead Tree Fans!

It has been quite the hot minute since our last blog post. Appologies on all that, there have been a lot of ups and downs due to covid, work, and personal life stuff with our staff, but we are alive and kicking and have been diligently working on Dames of Asstoria, as well as other things.

This weekend we have released playtest version 0.93 to our playtester server, which includes an expanded spell list, new disease mechanics, humans as a playable race, updated armor/weapon type mechanics, and more smaller mechanics that, while important, aren’t super game changing. Things like Fall Speeds, and starvation mechanics and the like. If you have the play tester reward from our indiegogo, you can follow the link to the server and find the release folder within.

Additionally we have been slowly working on our website, updating things on the back end. There isn’t much to talk about as this has been where most of our delays have happened, but our end goal is to eventually, fully migrate our website on to the Shopify, for a neater, cleaner experience.

We have also begun building a demo-book for the dames of Asstoria Core Rule book. We hope to have something to demonstrate at the next convention we show up to, but also we want to post the digital PDF to our playtesters and get their feed back. But also because L9 really likes formatting books and wanted stuff to do when he doesn’t want to look at mechanics. We aren’t expecting anything to be demonstrable for several months, but either way it will provide an excellent base for the final book when we are ready for actual formatting.

In Dames adjacent news we have also been active on our youtube: https://www.youtube.com/c/deadtreestudios We have been uploading some music we’ve commissioned from Durrdiss as well as been livestreaming, both art and video gameplay, from our artists and a few friends who help out (as well as the DTS staff themselves). Both to put usage into the Youtube, and to help spread a little promotional material. Thanks to continued sales on our website we have a little extra money to spend on Dames promo stuff. So please go check it out and leave a comment or two!

The only other news worthy topic that comes to mind is that L9 has been making the occasional new server emote for our public server, which you can join here: https://discord.gg/W3DdccR

That’s everything for now! We will hopefully see you soon. So grab your dice and praise Ze’Quarius! Do you have what it takes to be knighted a Dame?

Dames of Asstoria Campaign End

Thank you everyone who backed and supported Dames of Asstoria these last 60 days! With your help we successfully raised 12,530$!  Unlocking a fourth stretch goal. We will most likely go a little radio silent over the next week or so as we organize and crunch numbers, after which we will release a financial break down for our expenditures, and where you can expect to see money going.

Everyone with playtest rewards and with Fallout Equestria digital copies can find the links emailed to them. Most of everyone should have already received their links in their email, those who backed Dames in the last 5 or so hours will be getting them sent out in the next 20 minutes. If you don’t see any emails please check your spam folder. If you still can not find the emails please contact us at info.deadtree@gmail.com with your contribution number and we’ll be happy to get everything sorted. For those with playtester rewards we look forward to seeing you in the playtester server where we post the playtest rules and host games. Currently we have version 0.912 released which is focusing on character creation and we hope to soon release the character advancement system for everyone to play around with.

Those with the Chimera and Lore relavant characters will be getting instructions related to those rewards emailed to them within the next week.

We are also planning on offering upgrades and add ons, though we are using our storefront to manage our pledges, as well as deliver rewards. This will give us a few benefits including a much better shipping price, lower than what we have on our campaign page, as well as giving everyone a chance to update shipping and automated tracking. It will take us roughly a month or two to make sure everyone is properly imported and everything is functioning as intended, but we’ll let everyone know as soon as we are set up. For those wondering why we are not using a pledge manager like Backer kit. Simply it comes down to value proposition. We absolutely adore Backer Kit and fully planned on using them if we had more backer than we were comfortable with managing. Currently the number of backers is not beyond our capabilities or comfort level so we have opted to do our backer management in house, as it makes more sense for us at this stage.

Lastly we have a dev blog over at  http://projectdeadtree.com/site/ which we tend to use for most of our updates and information dump. When things are busy and we are mad at work on a game we tend to update it weekly, and slow down between projects. most of our news on Dames of Asstoria will be updated their, however big importantant announcements will still also be updated through Indiegogo. In addition to Dames of Asstoria we are working on releasing a free NPC book for Fallout Equestria, as well as an Adventure module. No hard release date on either at this moment but we are hoping to have both done by Christmas.

That’s everything for now. Thank you once again for all your support! We look forward to all of the adventures that await in the land of Asstoria. Do you have what it takes to become a Dame? Find out soon!

Too Lazy for a witty Title

Hey Dead Tree Fans

Short update, mostly to show we havent been nerfed by the rona.

Mostly working hard at getting the adventure module done. The Maps for said Module are like 98% done and will start exporting like this week.

We havent forgotten about the NPC book, we’ve just been putting it aside so we don’t have to look at character sheets anymore. It’ll come, even if we forgo the book format. It’s…. a LOT of NPCs. like 200 I want to guess? maybe more. so uhh yeah. Burn out on that front, give us time.

We have a patreon poll if you’re a part of the Patreon. Vote and tell us what kind of Discord server emojis you guys want. https://www.patreon.com/posts/36969205

Uhhhh we’re also working on another Race expansion to be released with the Adventure module.

And finally working our asses off on Dames stuff. Lots of cool things comming in the next few months on that front so be hype.

That’s everything for now… see you guys next time L9 remembers to do this between his death march work. Until Next time.

Feeling Disturbed

Because we’re down with the sickness

What? Pandemic jokes in this time of crisis? How uncooth! Why couldn’t Dead Tree have quarantined their sick sense of humour in this time of crisis? -Also Dead Tree

Greetings Dead Tree Fans, we are here with so more updates for you about the on goings and outgoings. First and foremost we here are all pretty much ok. A couple of us have fallen sick but so far nothing requiring a hospital. We already work remotely so things haven’t slowed down much, and as such we are happy to announce that the Magic Expansion is going to be released this week. No final day *just yet* as we are doing final checks and rereads but it WILL be out by the weekend.

Outside of that we are also working on an adventure module for Fallout Equestria. This will most likely be the only other Fallout Equestria related release we make before we fully switch and commit to Dames of Asstoria. This isn’t 100%, there may be other content we release while we work on the adventure module but no promises.

That’s it for now Dead Tree Fans. Stay safe, wash your hands as it gives you a +20 to your disease resistance and keep an eye out for that awesome Magical goodness. Also I suggest investing in polearms as they will allow you to stab those who cough on you from proper social distancing… distances.

Day 69 of Quarantine

The furniture don’t suspect that I’m not one of them. All is going according to plan.

Greetings Dead Tree Fans! Hope you are all doing well and washing your hands! Things have been, like the broken record says, hectic. Most of us had been working and being busy with our day jobs, but with the latest…. happening of 2020 we’ve thankfully had enough of some… CDC mandated time off to churn through the Advanced Magic Expansion. So that WILL be releasing quite soon.

We also have moved forward with the physical CDs, however due to the current COVID-19 Epidemic, those are currently on hold at the manufacturer. No current ETA on when they will arrive.

We have also received the updated proof for the Book set box which you can see here.

The manufacturer for them is no longer shut down due to Covid-19 so we will most likely be ordering a batch of them in. But there is still no telling when they will arrive or if mail service will still be operational when they get here.

Minifigures *were* done but L9OBL’s dog opened the room they were in and walked all over them so we still need to take stock of which ones need to be reprinted.

Other physical items like the box set box are currently being reconsidered. But no solid word on that yet. Though if we are remembering correctly, that box is really the only physical item left.

That’s it for now hope you are all doing well, and that you’re practising good hygiene. Remember to wash your hands, clean your phone, avoid touching your face and instead of stabbing people who get too close and/or cough on you we suggest you instead cut them with a pole axe, or halberd, as it will help you maintain proper social distancing.

CDeez Updates

Hah Gotem!

Greetings Dead Tree Fans! Been a while. Unfortunately we’ve been super busy IRL and haven’t been able to update the dev blog as well as we would like. So let’s dive right into things.

Firstly the CD and digital packs. We have been hard at work getting all the little extras done to finalize the CD and the digital packs. While the core books have been done, little things like the world map, character sheets, and other goodies were still being made. Welp those are all done now and we’ve updated everyone with a Digital pack. We are doing a final final once over and check for the CDs as those can’t really be updated and then once that is done we will get the CDs made. We are hoping proofing doesn’t take too long and that everything can be all said and done by the end of March.

For those with physical Map boards, physical minis and the other goodies coming with the Patreon/Box sets, Minis are all vapour bathed and done. Map boards and GM Blinds are printed. We just need to design and finish the boxes that everything will go in. That is being put on hold until we are finished with the Slip cases for the Book Sets. The proof came in however it was rather unsatisfactory in colour and a little too small so we are needing to get a new, adjusted proof printed and examined. If the new proof meets our standards then we are hoping to have slip cases mailed out early/mid March.

The Advanced Magic expansion is also being worked on, albeit slowly. There is currently no ETA on its release as we are still working on the manuscript.

Lastly we are also working steadfastly on Dames of Asstoria and Zen is putting together a focus group to help us narrow down the most optimal Character creation method in order to give players the level of flexibility a monster girl game deserves while keeping it intuitive and easy. If that is something you’d be interested in please join our discord for more information!

That’s everything for now. Until next week… or month…. or…Until next update Dead Tree Fans! Be sure to leave a comment, check out our Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Discord as well as our Patreon, and don’t forget to keep an eye out for our livestreamed game shenanigans!  And as usual, be careful, it’s a wasteland out there!

Ho Ho Holy Shit

It’s a dev blog update! I thought these went extinct?!

Sorry to disappoint you Dead Tree Fans, but real life is just hectic. But now on to the news!

So the big things that have happened over the month of December are:

Kirins have been balanced and formatted. Currently we are working on drawing all the art for them, while the editing team gives the expansion one more once over.

Additionally we are holding s vote to decide on the next thing we work on after Kirins are released. A mechanics expansion, a new race, or an adventure path.

Secondly we will be doing a boxing week sale! Everything store wide in our online store will be 10% off from December 26th until December 31st.

Other than that we have been working on the box art for the CDs as well as working on vapour bathing the minifigs and finishing up colour tuning and inspecting proofs for the boxes for the book sets.

That’s everything for now. Until next week Dead Tree Fans! Be sure to leave a comment, check out our Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Discord as well as our Patreon, and don’t forget to keep an eye out for our livestreamed game shenanigans!  And as usual, be careful, it’s a wasteland out there!
